 Nestled in the heart of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Northern New Mexico, Taos Mountain Candles was founded twenty five years ago by the current CEO, Cindy Maestas. Originally basing the business out of her laundry room in order to stay at home with her newborn son, Cindy has successfully developed the business into a prominent name in the industry.
 In addition to the retail store on Taos Plaza, the candles are also sold in the design center heading west toward the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, and are also distributed nationwide through wholesale sales. However, despite a high demand, Taos Mountain Candles still resolutely stands by their slogan, “The Makers of Handmade Candles.” The company incorporates the individual, hand made craftsmanship employed twenty five years ago into a solid line of products distinguished by vivid colors and unique scents.
Deriving inspiration from the natural surroundings of the high desert, this line features seventeen different colors and aromas which range from southwestern fragrances including Piñon, the New Mexico state tree, Sage and Indian Fry Bread, to more classic fragrances including Lavender, Mountain Rain and Café Latte. The chili ristra candle has also proven to be a timeless classic.
